Understanding the scenario of Eating disorders worldwide

Eating disorders are serious mental illnesses; they are not zero bands this issue has increased many folds. People from all walks of life both men and women, young and old, rich and poor, and from all cultural backgrounds are choosing the motto of ‘stay thin to look fit’. This is leading to a high incidence of eating disorders worldwide about 66% between 16-19 years of age. Eating disorders are serious mental illnesses; they are not a lifestyle choice or a diet gone ‘too far. Disordered eating and body image issue has increased worldwide over the few decades even reaching its hands in our country among all ages, mostly in young adults. Most eating disorders involve focusing too much on your weight, body shape, and food, leading to dangerous eating behaviors. These behaviors can significantly impact your body’s ability to get adequate nutrition. Eating disorders often develop in the teen and young adulthood when the body image existence maximizes. A person with an eating disorder may experience long term health issues leading to social, financial, physical impairment, often affecting the individual as well as the entire family or circle of support.

Every year National Eating Disorder Awareness Week is followed in the last week of February/first week of March (25th Feb to 3rd March).
