Sugar, in all forms, is a simple carbohydrate that the body converts into glucose and uses for energy. But the effect on the body and your overall health depends on the type of sugar you’re eating, either natural or refined.
Natural sugars are found in fruit as fructose and in dairy products, such as milk and cheese, as lactose.

Refined sugars are derived from sugar cane which are processed to extract the sugar. It is typically found in the form of sucrose,which is the combination of glucose & fructose. Food manufacturers add chemically produced sugar mostly high fructose corn syrup to beverages such as flavored yogurt, tomato sauce, salad dressing. Even in low fat foods manufacturers use sugar to add flavors.
How the body metabolizes sugar in fruit and milk differs from how it metabolizes from the refined sugar added to processed foods. The body breaks down refined sugar rapidly, causing insulin & blood sugar levels to hike. Because refined sugar is digested quickly and you don’t feel full after eating such a food or drink. In case of fruit consumption fiber in the fruit slows down the metabolism and it also gives the fullness feeling. If you already have lot of sugar in your blood stream then extra sugar is converted into fat and glycogen, which are storage form of Glucose that’s used for instant energy.
Nowadays we eat more refined sugar as compared to our parents & grandparents so we are seeing the output in the form of increased cases of obesity, among adults and children. Obesity is associated with various cancers. On the other side fruits high in antioxidants may reduce the cancer risk and as they are rich in fibers prevent from over eating.
